Dr Cesca McInerney

Dr Cesca McInerney’s research focuses on supporting traceability and sustainability in agriculture by investigating how natural geochemical fingerprints record information on geographic origins and sustainable production of food and fibre.

Cesca’s background is in Earth Sciences with a specialty in isotope and organic geochemistry. In particular, she develops and validates quantitative, process-based models to characterise the key controls on geochemical variations. These models then enable the interpretation of geochemical signature both in modern and in ancient systems. Her previous research was largely focused on palaeoclimatology and palaeoecology applications of these models, while her current research uses these models for agricultural and environmental applications. She has always cultivated interdisciplinarity because she believes that most interesting and impactful science occurs at the intersections between research fields.

Prior to joining CSIRO, Cesca worked for 22+ years as a university professor and lecturer in both Australia and the USA, coming to Australia in 2012 as an ARC Future Fellow.
