Biography

Dan in a former life was a musician specialising in Indonesian music remixes. Now he is a data scientist and signal processing researcher, working in the area of “model inversion”. Model inversion is where you have some complicate physics simulation, and you see the outputs and you want to know the inputs that produced those outputs. This kind of problem arises in water resources, athmospheric modelling, pollution analysis, remote sensing, minerals exploration and medical imaging, amongst many other places.
