Biography

Vanessa joined the Marine Pressures team at CSIRO in 2017 and is involved in research into the sources and impacts of marine debris, as well as illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing.

Vanessa's main project involves a stocktake of the incidence of illegal fishing in south east Asia, and she also provides technical support with the team using covert hydrophones to detect illegal fishing behaviours at sea. On a more general level, Vanessa provides logistic support across the team, including equipment management, GIS analysis, scientific editing and database management.

Previously, Vanessa spent 8 years at the University of Tasmania in project and business management roles, in research teams that studied environmental policy in agricultural landscapes and protected areas.

Vanessa has also completed a Master of Environmental Management, where her research examined invertebrate populations to determine the success of revegetation projects in agricultural landscapes.
