Biography

Dr Tze Ling (Seline) Ng is a Research Scientist in the Water Forecasting Team at CSIRO Environment. Seline has over 20 years of research experience in water resources systems analysis and management, hydrological modelling and water forecasting. She specialises in constructing ensemble forecast-informed decision models, including optimisation models, for reservoir operation under uncertainty. She is also focused on developing and implementing rainfall-runoff models and statistical climate post-processing methods for generating ensemble streamflow forecasts.

Seline is active in collaborative projects with water managers. Major projects that she is or has been involved in include the Murray-Darling Water and Environment Research Program and a headroom analysis project for the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, where her coupled hydrological forecasting-decision models have been used to simulate environmental watering, evaluate flood risk, and minimise water supply shortage.

Prior to joining CSIRO in 2018, Seline was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. There, she led a team of PhD students and a postdoctoral associate to conduct research in reservoir operation optimisation, urban watershed management and energy use modelling. Seline also taught courses in environmental engineering and environmental systems analysis, and was keenly involved in student outreach, advising and mentoring.

Seline has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers in Water Resources Research, Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management-ASCE, Environmental Science and Technology and other prominent international journals. She has presented on multiple occasions at Fall Meetings of the American Geophysical Union, MSSANZ (Modelling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand) International Congresses on Modelling and Simulation (MODSIM), Hydrology and Water Resources Symposiums (HWRSs) and other national and international conferences, and has organised and chaired MODSIM sessions on water forecasting and decision-making under uncertainty.
