Biography

Dr Jordan Pennells is a Research Scientist / Engineer within the CSIRO Food Engineering team, focussing on the development of predictive models to evaluate the quality of food and feed products processed through extrusion technology. Jordan has a research background in biomass-based material engineering, completing his PhD on "Sorghum as a Novel Biomass for the Sustainable Production of Cellulose Nanofibres" in 2022 from the University of Queensland's School of Chemical Engineering. Jordan has a strong interest in the development of statistical modelling techniques to gain further understanding of complex biophysical processing operations such as twin-screw extrusion, to efficiently generate sustainable and functional materials such as plant-based meat analogues, healthy snack foods, animal feeds, and biodegradable packaging materials.
