Biography
Janet is a molecular and cell biologist having completed a BSc (Microbiology) at the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and then a PhD at QUT and Mater Research investigating protease cascades, cell surface interactions, and protease-activated receptor activation associated with prostate cancer.
Janet worked for the Community for Open Antimicrobial Drug Discovery (CO-ADD), a not-for-profit initiative led by academics at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), UQ. In this group she developed high-throughput screening protocols for assessing adverse effects of anti-microbial compounds as well as conducting screening for anti-inflammatory compounds targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome.
Janet is now managing the CSIRO BioFoundry, an engineering biology service facility founded by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the University of Queensland (UQ). She is assisting researchers with adapting standard bench molecular biology approaches to high-throughput, automated alternatives to generate and test DNA materials and engineered strains.
Please contact Dr Reid if you are interested in increasing the throughput in your synthetic biology workflows. The BioFoundry pipeline has options for you to explore. SynBioFoundry@csiro.au.
