Biography
Janet is an experienced micro- and molecular biologist with a background in laboratory automation. She has a degree in microbiology and a PhD in prostate cancer cell biology. Before joining CSIRO, Janet worked for the Community for Open Antimicrobial Drug Discovery (CO-ADD), a not-for-profit initiative led by academics at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), UQ. In this group, she developed high-throughput screening protocols for assessing adverse effects of anti-microbial compounds as well as conducting screening for anti-inflammatory compounds targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome.
Janet joined CSIRO as the CSIRO BioFoundry facility manager. In this role, she built the facility from the ground up, driving integration of biological and digital technologies, and managing a team of molecular biologists and a data engineer working with researchers and industry. The projects adapted standard laboratory molecular biology approaches into high-throughput alternatives using laboratory automation and automated data management. The purpose of the work was to generate and test DNA materials and engineered microbial strains useful for research and industry. From this role Janet has experience in strategy development and execution, business development and communications, impact pathway mapping, and engagement with and development of meaningful relationships with stakeholders.
Janet is also an enthusiastic participant in CSIRO community groups that promote and foster cross disciplinary engagement and solutions to current and future technical, digital, and operational issues that are necessary to consider as CSIRO works towards the increased digitization of the way our teams and facilities function.
Now a member of the Business Development team and working with Data61 Cyber and Physical Systems, Janet is excited to lead and champion relationships and collaboration for this exciting Data61 program.
