Biography
Megan is a Research Dietitian in the Nutrition and Behaviour team, with a background in clinical dietetics, community nutrition, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander health, and oral health. She has experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Her expertise includes nutrition and health promotion interventions and evaluation, science communication, media relations, project management, dietary assessment, systematic reviews, data analysis, and clinical and community trials.
Since joining CSIRO in 2016, Megan has contributed to a variety of scientific areas, including public health, behaviour change, wellbeing, preventive health, program evaluation, obesity and chronic disease, food sustainability, sensory science, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and app development. Her interests lie in developing and delivering interventions that enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
Achievements include:
* Co-authoring CSIRO books, such as Gut Care Guide (2021) and contributing to the Healthy Gut Diet and the Low-Carb Diet.
* Desseminating CSIRO's research outcomes through media appearances, including television, radio, podcasts, and print media platforms, including Channel 10's The Project (2024).
* Contributing to the evidence base with publications on dietary patterns, food sustainability and security, dietary assessment (CSIRO Diet Score), and behaviour change.
* Providing project management and coordination skills to successfully deliver several concurrent activities.
* Planning and executing nutrition interventions, including education sessions, cooking demonstrations, and clinical trial dietary protocols.
* Managing community-based trials with over 200 participants, testing smartphone apps, dietary and lifestyle habits, and behavioural science theories.
* Participating in the CSIRO Accelio program to explore personalised interventions to reduce the health impact of obesity and chronic disease.
* Participating in the CSIRO ON Accelerate program, developing a point-of-care device to measure gut health.
