Biography
Dr Rebecca Riggs is a sustainability scientist in CSIRO Agriculture and Food. She is currently involved in research on strengthening capabilities to explore, understand, and act on challenges of just sustainability transitions. Her current work includes partnerships focusing on Pacific agri-food systems, Indigenous partnerships in the Australian critical minerals sector, and Indonesian lakes. In each of these partnerships, Rebecca uses visual tools and systems analysis to understand and centre diverse and marginalised values in decision-making. Rebecca enjoys working in transdisciplinary teams, connecting with the range of societal actors, and drawing from diverse knowledge systems to solve sustainability challenges linked to natural resources, livelihoods, and governance. Rebecca also maintains research collaborations in Indonesia, Cambodia, Cameroon, and Canada related to resource governance. By working at the interface of science, policy, and practice, Rebecca’s research seeks to close knowledge gaps, increase local agency, and improve decision-making systems.
