Biography

Jess is a Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader in the Discovery Program of the CSIRO Mineral Resources BU. She is a multi-disciplinary geoscientist with expertise in the application of geochemical and spectroscopic techniques. She is broadly interested in improving the workflows in which we collect and integrate geoscientific datasets and works across a range of technology development and translation projects including leading Project 3 (Real-time downhole assay) of the MinEx CRC, and Activity 5 (Outreach and Training) of the AuScope National Virtual Core Library.

During her PhD she worked in Canada's Superior Province on Archean orogenic gold systems and gained practical experience working in underground mining as a production geologist. Following that, she spent one year as a post-doctoral fellow and instructor at University of Winnipeg applying spectral and geochemical data sets to the study of meteorites and planetary analogue systems.

Jess is strong believer in the importance of increasing inclusion and representation of historically excluded populations in the geosciences and broader STEMM community. She is the chair of the Pride@CSIRO werkgroup and network, co-chairs CSIRO's LGBTIQA+ Action Plan Working Group, and is the EMCR member of the AAS (Australian Academy of Science) National Committee for the Earth Sciences. She has previously held roles on the CMR D&I committee, the national committee for QueersInScience, and GICE (Geoscience Indigenous Collaboration and Engagement) committee.
