Biography
Dr Jess Stromberg is a Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader of the Mineral Footprints Team at the CSIRO. She is a multi-disciplinary geoscientist with expertise in the application of spectroscopic techniques to geologic materials and works across a range of technology development and translation projects including leading Project 3 (Real-time downhole assay) of the MinEx CRC.
She has a background in ore deposit geochemistry and spectral mineralogy, has worked as an underground production geologist, and holds a PhD in Geology and Planetary Science from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Before joining CSIRO, she held a post-doctoral research fellowship at University of Winnipeg applying spectral and geochemical data sets to the study of meteorites and planetary analogue systems.
Jess is an advocate for fostering inclusive practices in the geosciences and broader STEMM community. She leads the Pride@CSIRO Network and co-chairs CSIRO’s LGBTIQA+ Action Plan Working Group, is a founding member of the WA Chapter of Queers in Science and the GICE GSA Specialist Group, and is the EMCR member of the AAS National Committee for Earth Science.
