Biography

With my background in Computer Science, I got introduced to the practical and implementable applications of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) under the expert supervision of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

I pursued my PhD research on rapid flood inundation mapping and modelling approaches across large-scale data-scarce regions, working with Dr Basudev Biswal (IIT Bombay), Dr Christoph Rudiger (Monash University), and Dr Wendy Sharples (Bureau of Meteorology).

The work primarily focuses on the development of computationally efficient methods for modelling flood events using novel remote sensing data including GNSS-R, as in the case of CYGNSS. Primarily an ocean-based remote sensing mission, Cyclone – GNSS (CYGNSS) data has been found to be useful in the detection of flood events over land surfaces. I analyse whether such data can be fused with conceptual flood terrain indices including Height Above Nearest Drainage (HAND) for modelling floods upto a lead time of 7 days.

At CSIRO, as part of my CERC postdoc fellowship, I would be working on Land-to-Ocean outflows estimation for coastal water quality assessments. You can read more about it here: https://research.csiro.au/aquatic-sensing/projects/forecasting-coastal-water-quality-using-earth-observations/
