Biography
Qamar Schuyler is a research scientist in CSIRO's Oceans and Atmosphere business unit. Within CSIRO’s Ending Plastic Waste mission, Qamar leads efforts to leverage standards and best practices to reduce plastic waste. She also conducts research on marine plastics, specifically modelling the distribution and fate of plastics from land to sea, and quantifying the risks of plastic to marine wildlife. Other research interests include analysis of satellite imagery for ecological change detection, visual ecology, and sea turtle ecology. Qamar also has extensive experience in marine tourism, and coordinated outreach and education campaigns in the Northern Mariana Islands.
Qamar delivered a TEDx talk, How do we radically rethink our relationship with plastic? at TEDx Hobart in 2022.
