Biography

Sally is a skilled editor and project coordinator. She is a valued contributor to projects as she has the experience to manage the finer details of project outputs and the vital 'behind the scenes' work to meet project requirements. Sally has managed teams of editors and research support to achieve project objectives, particularly within tight deadlines.

Sally has applied her skills to a variable repertoire of reports and web outputs for projects such as the Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment, the Bioregional Assessment Program and the Land and Ecosystem Accounts Project.

Sally also concentrates on language used in projects by standardising language to agreed conventions. This language can be applied to a structured vocabulary, such as a glossary, using software tools to formalise vocabularies. Specifically, she works with vocabularies in the sematic web and linked data context. She has applied this work to the Bioregional Assessment Program glossary and, more recently, the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program. Her experience and skills in this space involve ascertaining user needs, devising workflows for governance, structuring vocabularies based on user requirements, using tools to formalise vocabularies. Importantly, Sally’s work has heavily involved the social aspects necessary to formalise vocabularies, bridging the gap between technical experts, domain experts and decision makers.

Sally has a research background in Biochemistry and joined CSIRO in 2003 as a Science Information Officer for CSIRO's public relations unit, CSIRO Enquiries. In 2005, she branched out into various roles relating to publication management, quality assurance workflows and publication reporting, furthering her knowledge of information science.

Sally is a member of the Environmental Information Infrastructures Team in the Water Resource Management Program in the Land and Water Flagship. Sally recently joined the Environmental Information Infrastructures Team in 2017.

Other Interests

Sally is also trained in accessible document design (Vision Australia) and in successful science copyediting and publication management (Biotext).
