Biography

Dr Shahroz Tariq is a Research Scientist at CSIRO in Sydney, working at the intersection of trustworthy AI and cybersecurity. His research focuses on AI security, deepfake and generative media forensics, continual learning, explainable AI, and human–AI collaboration for high-stakes operational environments such as security operations centres and digital media ecosystems.

He develops robust, adaptive, and human-aligned AI systems that perform reliably under real-world conditions, including distribution shift, adversarial manipulation, and evolving threat landscapes. His work spans multimodal deepfake detection, synthetic media analysis, anomaly detection, and human–AI teaming, with a strong emphasis on deployment and real-world impact.

Shahroz received the Australian AI Awards 2025 “AI Rising Star of the Year” for his contributions to trustworthy AI. His research has been published in leading venues including NeurIPS, IEEE S&P, KDD, WWW, ACM Multimedia, and ACM Computing Surveys, and has attracted 3000+ citations with an h-index of 25+ (2026).

Shahroz holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Sungkyunkwan University and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO Data61 (2022–2024) before his current role.

He contributes to the community through workshop organisation, mentoring, and science communication, including co-organising WDC at AsiaCCS and 3D-Sec at ACM CCS. He has supervised 2 students, currently supervises 2 PhD students, and mentored 10+ students, as well as SMEs and junior staff through CSIRO programs.
