Biography

Jamie is a senior software engineer who focuses on taking complex software-intensive research problems and turns them into simplicity. There's nothing worse than software systems that are too hard to use, or just don't work, right?

For the past 19 years Jamie has led teams and been actively involved in research, design and implementation of large scale environmental modelling projects such as:

  • Workflows for comprehensive water assessments of the Murray Darling Basin and Northern Australia.
  • The Australian Water Resources Assessment System - for the Bureau of Meteorology.
  • Calibration of continental scale land surface models.
  • Inter-operable web services for exchange of soil information (ANZSoilML - for Australia and New Zealand).
  • Near real-time irrigation decision support systems (IrriSAT - for Australia and the CONUS).
  • Machine learning techniques to assist with farm scale soil mapping using remote sensing.
  • Monitoring platforms to assess the impact of floodplain vegetation and groundwater dependent assets.
  • Online visualization tools for the Northern Australia Water Resource Assessments.
  • Optimizing transport movements across Australia's road and rail networks for government (TraNSIT Web).
  • Developing high frequency, high resolution evapotranspiration datasets for Australia.

In his spare time, Jamie enjoy's salsa dancing, heading to the beach for a surf, bumping a beach volleyball around, or trying to strum a new song out on the guitar.
