Biography
Joanne Vanderzalm is a Senior Research Scientist in the Groundwater Systems research team of CSIRO Land and Water. Her research interests include water quality, managed aquifer recharge, water reuse, biogeochemical processes, metal and metalloid mobility, natural treatment processes and application of environmental tracers to assess reaction processes. Her current focus is on managed aquifer recharge (MAR) or 'water banking' to increase the resilience of agricultural and urban water supplies to drought.
Joanne joined CSIRO in 2003 after completing her PhD research at Flinders University on 'Hydrogeochemical processes during aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) with reclaimed water in a carbonate aquifer'. Prior to this Joanne had completed a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Applied Science from Monash University and had worked in industrial and environmental chemistry.
