Nuwan Vithanage is an Applied Microbiologist at the CSIRO Food Safety and Stability group. Her diverse experience includes dairy microbiology, food spoilage, food safety, microbiome, clinical microbiology, predictive microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, sustainability, and waste management, as well as food safety and quality management systems.

As a researcher, she has investigated microbial enzymes, toxins, spores, proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics in food. She is interested in the microbiome, its metabolites, and their complex interactions in advanced food systems. She is currently involved in various strategic and commercial projects align with CSIRO mission programs.

Prior to CSIRO, she has been teaching and supervising various subjects to undergraduate and post graduate programmes in academia.

She has worked in number of industries which are processing milk and dairy products (liquid milk, cheese and yogurt), fermented vegetable, chocolate and biscuits. She has been involved various industrial projects in Food Science and Food Processing.

Nuwan graduated with a PhD in dairy microbiology from the Victoria University in December 2017.
