Biography
Dr Harun Rashid is a Principal Research Scientist and Group Leader (a/g) of Modelling the Earth System Group in CSIRO Environment BU. A core responsibility of this group is to research and develop the Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS). Harun’s research interests lie in the observational and modelling studies of climate variability and change, with an aim to improve the performance of ACCESS climate model. His current research focuses on understanding the effects of external forcings, e.g., anthropogenic greenhouse gases and aerosols, on ocean-atmosphere coupled variations. In the past, Harun investigated modes of climate variability, including El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), using climate models and observations, which he is still continuing. He was the Lead Chief Investigator of two National Environmental Science Program (NESP) ESCC Hub projects for ACCESS development and evaluation. Harun has been a member of the AMOS National Council since 2019. Recently, he has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Steering Group of a World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) core project: Earth System Modelling and Observations (ESMO) for the period 2023-2027.
