Biography
Aaron is a research scientist in the Host Response Team, part of the the Health & Biosecurity business unit, located at the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness in Geelong, Victoria. He joined CSIRO in 2019 as a postdoctoral research fellow following completion of his PhD at the University of Melbourne during which he investigated host-pathogen interactions important to lyssavirus infection and immune evasion.
Aaron has a background in molecular biology, innate immunity, and molecular virology, specialising in the use of meta-analyses, molecular and biochemical tools, cell-based assays, and high-end microscopy to investigate the host-virus interface and its role in viral replication and modulation of host cell processes.
Aaron's current research interests involve developing next-generation antivirals against highly pathogenic viruses, focusing on therapeutics amenable to pandemic preparedness and rapid response to novel pathogens, including host-directed antivirals and aptamers.
