Biography
Dr Challagulla is a Research Scientist within the Genome Engineering team of CSIRO Health & Biosecurity Business Unit. He is based at the CSIRO Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness in Geelong, Victoria. Dr Challagulla’ s research is focused on applying genome engineering, comparative genomics and genome-wide association studies to dissect the key molecular mechanisms that underpin susceptibility or resistance to infectious diseases in agricultural animal species. Dr Challagulla has extensive experience in conducting animal challenge experiments with virus that have zoonotic potential such as highly pathogenic avian influenza.
Dr Challagulla received his M.Sc and PhD from Deakin University and undertook post-doctoral fellowships at CSIRO. He has been an invited speaker at both national and international conferences and has published several research articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr Challagulla also has a passion for training the next generation of scientist. He has provided mentorship to PhD students and supervised both work experience and Honour’s students.
