Biography
Dr Andrew Fletcher is a Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader in Agriculture and Food in Floreat. Andrew joined CSIRO in 2012. He has expertise in plant and crop physiology, agronomy and farming systems science. His multidisciplinary and collaborative research integrates from the plant to farm scale and delivers high quality research and industry impact. His current focus is on Mediterranean-climate cropping systems research. His current research is on crop establishment, crop rotations and crop diversification. Andrew utilises GxExM approaches in farming systems research and works closely with pre-breeders to test the latest crop genetics under innovative management approaches.
Andrew has conducted research in a broad range of farming systems. Andrew completed at Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 2000 and PhD in 2005, specializing in Crop Physiology, at Lincoln University in New Zealand. Andrew’s PhD studied responses to phosphorus fertilizer in Sweet corn. Andrew then worked for 2 years as a year post-doctoral researcher at the University of Florida, studying water use in soybean genotypes. Between 2007 and 2012 Andrew worked for Plant & Food Research in New Zealand where he studied the production of supplementary forage crops.
Andrew leads a large multidisciplinary team of 10 staff (3 research scientists, 1 experimental scientist, 5 research technicians and 1 affiliate). The team has expertise in crop and pasture agronomy, farming systems, water and nutrient use efficiency, soil microbiome genetics, and simulation modelling.
