Biography
I am a Experimental Scientist in Additive Manufacturing experienced in Arcam electron beam melting new materials development, operation, support structure creation, and powder characterisation and metallograpy.
For the past 5 years I have been using our additive manufacturing 3D printer to build parts in titanium in a powder layer process. This process made by Arcam AB in Sweden uses an electron beam to preheat and lightly sinter layers of metal powder raked over a baseplate and micro-weld them to the shape of parts, gradually building parts in very thin 50 micron layers thousands of times to make parts up to 180 mm high x 200mm x 200mm.
I am still involved in characterising Cold Spray coatings. Cold Spray utilizes a supersonic jet of gas embedded with powders to bond metal powders to substrates and create coatings or semi-fabricate parts to shape. This technology can enhance corrosion, oxidation, fatigue, and wear resistance of materials.
