Biography

Jens is a Geographer and Landscape Ecologist with research expertise in biosecurity and biological invasions, data integration, spatial analysis, risk modelling and structured expert elicitation. He is currently the Team Leader of the Adaptive Biosecurity Management Team, where he develops methods, workflows and digital tools to enable adaptive management of biosecurity threats for improved outcomes. Jens is motivated by doing research with impact that is relevant to policy makers and on-ground land managers.

Jens' research approach is integrative, drawing on 15 years of diverse experiences in the biosecurity sector across institutions (government, university and CSIRO) and functions (invasive plants and animals, plant biosecurity and animal biosecurity). Before joining CSIRO, he has worked for Biosecurity Queensland in research- and policy-related capacities, completed a joint PhD at The University of Queensland and CSIRO, and was a Research Associate at the Queensland University of Technology. At CSIRO, he has led and delivered research projects in partnership with government, industry or community stakeholders at all levels (local, state and national).

Jens currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the National Feral Pig Action Plan (NFPAP) and the Biosecurity Commons Expert Panel.
