Dr Nariman Habili

Senior Research Engineer

Dr Nariman Habili is an engineer with almost two decades of leadership, engineering and research experience in industry, academia and government. He has experience in leading R&D projects and developing state-of-the-art software solutions for computer vision and computational modelling. He has a BSc and a BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering from Flinders University and a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Adelaide.

Dr Habili was the engineering leader of the Scyllarus hyperspectral imaging project at NICTA/Data61. He was the developer of Scyven, an app for processing, analysing and visualising hyperspectral data. Scyven has had more than 1,800 downloads and is used around the world for various research and industry projects.

Recently, Dr Habili has acted as the project leader for several computer vision projects with Boeing, the DST Group and Bionic Vision Technologies. Bionic Vision Technologies (BVT) is an Australian company that develops innovative bionic vision systems to enable patients with vision loss to regain some vision and lead more independent lives. Dr Habili led a team of scientists, engineers and UX designers from across CSIRO. The project delivered algorithms and software to drive BVT's bionic vision system, as well as simulated clinical results to validate the algorithms and software. Three patent applications were made during the course of the project.
