Biography
Current activities
Dr Andrew Kotze is a Senior Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Agriculture, based at the Queensland Bioscience Precinct in St Lucia, Brisbane, Queensland. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland, and Editor in Chief of The International Journal for Parasitology: Drugs and Drug Resistance.
Dr Kotze's current research includes:
- investigating means to control intestinal parasites and blowflies
- exploring biochemical and molecular aspects of host-parasite interactions.
- identifying parasite biochemical pathways that would be suitable targets for chemotherapeutic control of worms and blowflies
- identifying natural products or synthetic chemicals with anthelmintic activity
- developing assays useful for detecting anthelmintic resistance in nematodes of veterinary and human importance.
Academic qualifications
Dr Kotze holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours (1984) and a Doctor of Philosophy (1989), both degrees from The University of Sydney, NSW, Australia. He undertook a postdoctoral position at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.
Achievements
Dr Kotze was awarded a University Medal in Agriculture from The University of Sydney.
He is an Editor in Chief of The International Journal for Parasitology: Drugs and Drug Resistance, a member of the editorial board of Veterinary Parasitology, and is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
He is the co-author of more than 100 research publications in refereed scientific journals.
