Biography
I have worked in large animal research for over 30 years, although I started my career working with native animals in the Wildlife division of the University of New England. I moved to Sydney and worked and studied at Sydney Technical College and completed a technicians certificate. Moving back to Armidale I worked at the University of New England, primarily in parasitology and immunology for several years until I was offered a job at CSIRO in Armidale and continued working in immunology. A career move saw me move to Perth with CSIRO, where I began working with wool, taking over the running of the wool laboratory. While in Perth I was also asked to manage the Captec program, supervising staff and working closely with commercial partners.
I was then offered the role has Chief Technician of the Biology Department at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, and seeing this as an opportunity for my young family to experience life in another cultural environment and learn valuable life skills, I took the role and spent an interesting 2 years in the South Pacific. I was then asked to apply for a research technicians role at UNE and moved back to Armidale to fulfil this role as well as completing a Bachelor of Arts. I moved back to CSIRO in 2003 working in Livestock Welfare, researching livestock transport , both land and sea, pain alleviation in husbandry procedures, feed choice in feed lots and virtual fencing.
