Biography
Chloe Mackallah is a climate data scientist in CSIRO Environment, and a committee member of QueersInScience Victoria. She received her PhD in Astrophysics in 2018, investigating stellar evolution through spectroscopic observations and numerical model.
Chloe now works in the Climate Science Centre at CSIRO, working with global and regional climate models to investigate changes in the Earth system, and what this means for the future of Australia’s environment. Her scientific interests lie in facilitating excellent science through transparency and provenance, open data and information, and a spirit of collaboration. She has performed many roles including data manager, technical support, scientific lead and science communicator.
When Chloe first joined CSIRO, she worked with the ACCESS modelling team to produce and publish climate data to CMIP6, an international climate science initiative under the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) that coordinates standardised climate simulations and provides global climate data from the world’s major climate research institutions. She developed specialist expertise in the production and management of large-scale climate model data and now co-leads the CMIP7 Data Request Task Team with a team of international scientists.
More recently, Chloe has been working in digital leadership and stewardship, where she is leveraging her experience with large climate datasets to lead development of CSIRO’s capacity to produce and manage high-quality datasets for research through publication, and for applications in industry via the market. Chloe engages across several strategic CSIRO-wide programs advising the delivery of digital transformation for CSIRO and has built a strong reputation across the organization.
Chloe is passionate about creating an environmentally sustainable future, supporting LGBTQIA+ people in STEMM, and enjoys science fiction and music.
