Biography
Marta Monjardino is an agricultural systems economist based at CSIRO Waite Campus, Adelaide. Marta's work adds value to farming systems research by quantifying the socio-economic and risk trade-offs of doing things differently, thereby informing farm-level decisions as well as research and funding priorities. Examples include: fertiliser management, yield gap analysis, integrated weed management, forage/pasture/grazing options, irrigation, and conservation agriculture. She was part of the original CSIRO Agriculture & Food Impact team, and has co-developed an integrated model approach to evaluate the ex-ante impact of agricultural innovations in smallholder systems. The Value-Ag approach has been applied to sustainable intensification case studies in developing countries, including a traditional maize system in southern Mexico through an ongoing CIMMYT collaboration.
