Biography

Shane is a Research Scientist and Team Leader of the Targeted Data Fusion team in the Mineral Resources Business Unit. He has specific expertise in working with airborne electromagnetic (AEM) data for subsurface conductivity mapping (depth to basement, overburden/cover mapping), mineral exploration (anomaly detection/modelling, mineral systems), and groundwater applications.

His research is currently focussed on the integration of geophysics and other geoscience data with the aim of improving exploration outcomes by incorporating automation and data analytics in processing, inversion, and interpretation. Shane is the project leader of the National Virtual Core Library (NVCL) and Mobile Petrophysical Laboratory (MPL) . His works cuts across disciplines and is aimed at bringing practical and efficient solutions to industry problems.

Prior to joining CSIRO, Shane worked as a Research Geophysicist in industry and as a consultant. His previous research has included algorithms for AEM data processing, developments for fixed-wing and helicopter AEM acquisition platforms (including Tempest), and airborne gravity gradiometry.
