Dr Mateus Oliveira Silva

Mateus is a Program Advisor in CSIRO SME Connect within Services (Clayton, VIC).

Mateus’s role is to assist in facilitating innovation-driven partnerships through funding, support and resources between Australian small to medium-sized enterprises/businesses (SMEs) with CSIRO and the research sector as part of the SME Collaboration Initiative and CSIRO Kick-Start.

The SME Collaboration Initiative aims to double the number of SMEs engaging with publicly-funded research to drive innovation in Australia and to make CSIRO an exemplar in SME engagement. Mateus works across a number of key activities that will assist in achieving the goals of the initiative. Mateus also connects SMEs with CSIRO experts through the CSIRO Kick-start Program, which provides a dollar-matched funding to Australian start-ups and small businesses to perform R&D projects with CSIRO.

Before joining CSIRO in 2021, Mateus worked on a wide variety of multidisciplinary research projects in global leading institutions, such as the University of Melbourne, Harvard University and NASA. He is also an IMNIS alumnus, an award-winning industry-led initiative of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). Mateus was also nominated as an ambassador for the ATSE through the 2022 IMNIS Catalyst program.
