Biography
Lachlan is a Research Scientist on the Bluelink Project and a 2025–26 Fulbright Scholar at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He previously completed a postdoctoral appointment with CSIRO’s AquaWatch mission. His research focuses on using hyperspectral observations to improve coastal modelling capabilities and water quality forecasting. Drawing on a background in ecology and ocean dynamics, Lachlan develops novel approaches that integrate physical, biogeochemical, and optical processes.
He completed his PhD at Macquarie University in 2023 with the thesis "Resolving the impact of the intensifying East Australian Current southern extension: from physics to predators". His doctoral research examined how strengthening East Australian Current is reshaping coastal ecosystems in one of the fastest-warming marine regions in the southern hemisphere. The project involved multi-year field campaigns on Montague Island (Baranguba), including biologging studies on penguins and broader pelagic ecosystem surveys.
