Biography
Fiona is an accomplished senior leader with many years of experience in the R&D sector. She applies her strengths in communication, coordination and analysis to lead and support teams to develop and deliver strategic initiatives, operational excellence and impact.
Fiona has a background in both chemistry and physics, and has worked across a diverse range of areas throughout her research career. She has contributed to projects on printed solar cells, chemical sensors, self-healing paints and aircraft corrosion. As a research manager, she has been responsible for research teams delivering into areas such as flexible electronics, device prototyping, superconductivity and quantum devices, optical systems, electric machines, graphene membranes and microfluidics. Key sectors her efforts have supported include advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, defence and space.
Fiona has more recently adapted her skills and experience to lead evidence-based approaches to business and digital transformation.
Other Interests
Fiona is a strong advocate for science communication. She has been a volunteer panelist on the science program Einstein A Go Go on Melbourne radio station 3RRR. Previously, she initiated and helped develop a training course to help CSIRO’s researchers engage more effectively with non-technical audiences. Fiona has featured on ABC’s The Business, showcasing CSIRO’s research into printed solar cell technology. She has also contributed to videos for CSIRO’s Flexible Electronics website as well as video content for CSIRO Learning and Development training courses.
