Biography

Rifat Ara Shams is a Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO's DATA61. She is working in Software Engineering for Responsible AI research group. Her research area is Diversity and Inclusion in Artificial Intelligence. Her research interests are Artificial Intelligence (AI), Diversity and Inclusion in AI, Software Engineering, Human Values in Software Engineering, Human and Social Factors in Software Engineering and AI, Empirical Software Engineering, Mixed-methods Research.

Before joining CSIRO, she was a PhD student of Operationalizing Values in Software (OVIS) lab at Monash University under the supervision of Professor Jon Whittle, Associate Professor Gillian Oliver, Dr. Mojtaba Shahin, and Dr. Waqar Hussain. Her PhD was funded by an ICT4D project named PROTIC, where she worked on "Operationalizing Values in Mobile Applications: A Mixed-Methods Empirical Study with Agriculture Apps for Bangladeshi Female Farmers".

Rifat is the winner of "Women in Technology 2021" award from Zonta Club of Melbourne and Lockheed Martin. She is also the Ambassador of STEM Sisters Victoria.
