Biography
Tracey works in the Plant Health Molecular Diagnostics team in the Biosecurity Program. She's using the latest in molecular techniques to advance the early detection and surveillance of plant diseases of biosecurity concern to Australia. Her background is in plant pathology, phylogenetics and microbial ecology in the context of using fungal pathogens as biocontrol agents for weeds such parkinsonia, weedy Sporobolus grasses, and tutsan.
Tracey has a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) and a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Deakin University (2010), a Masters in Science (Plant Ecology) from Lund University in Sweden (2012), and Honours in Applied Science from RMIT University (2012).
She was awarded the Fulbright Queensland Post-Graduate Award 2015-2016 and used the 10-month fellowship to continue her PhD research at the Forest Pathology Lab at University of California Berkeley. More recently she was a visiting professor at the Environmental DNA Lab at ETH Zurich in Switzerland in March 2023.
Other Interests
As a passionate advocate of women and diversity in science, she was also a member of the CSIRO H&B Early- and Mid-Career Researcher committee, and the immediate past-President of the Australasian Mycological Society.
