Biography

John Tuthill holds a B. Eng. (Electronics), 1987, a Master’s Degree by research in Array Signal Processing, 1996 and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, 2000. He is currently the Team Leader for the DIgital SIgnal Processing team at CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS). For the past 8 years he has been a senior member of the FPGA firmware development team for the ASKAP instrument and for the past 3 years he has also been the ASKAP firmware team manager. During this time he has been responsible for R&D and FPGA implementation and testing of some key parts of the ASKAP DSP signal chain. For the past two years he has been a member of the development team for the SKA Central Signal Processor of the Low frequency array Correlator and Beamformer (SKA.CSP Low.CBF).

Prior to CSIRO he held R&D engineering positions at small tech start-up companies including Altamar Networks (Mountain View, CA - contract), QR Sciences (Perth, WA - staff) and Seeker Wireless (Sydney - staff). He has also held academic research and teaching positions at the Lightwave and Electronics Laboratory, University of Western Australia and at the Australian Telecommunications Research Laboratory, Curtin University, WA. His current interests include DSP algorithm design and implementation, multi-rate systems, array signal processing, optimal and adaptive signal processing.
