Biography
Florence Bravo is a Senior Research Technician in the Cell and Molecular Health Group at CSIRO Health and Biosecurity. Prior to joining CSIRO, she accumulated over a decade of experience at leading European research institutions across the pharmaceutical, materials, defence, and food sectors. With formal training in chemistry and engineering, she has contributed to de novo drug synthesis, advanced drug delivery systems, and innovative materials development.
Since joining CSIRO in 2012, Florence has specialised in analytical chemistry, applying technologies such as electronic noses and GC MS to health and biosecurity challenges including human breath diagnostics, water quality, pest control, and defence applications. She contributed to the development and commercial translation of the CYBERTONGUE® biosensor through a secondment with PPB Technology, where she implemented quality systems and manufacturing processes.
More recently, she has expanded her expertise in molecular biology, proteomics, and lipidomics, applying qPCR and LC MS workflows to multi omics research. Her work includes optimising eDNA based detection of Varroa mites to support honeybee biosecurity, contributing to algal carbon sequestration research, and investigating proteomic and lipidomic workflows for COVID 19 and Alzheimer’s disease studies.
