Biography

Dr Utpal Bose is a Research Scientist in the CSIRO Agriculture Flagship, based at the Queensland Bioscience Precinct in Brisbane, Australia. Dr Bose’s current research project aims to enhance plant protein yield and quality using an integrated-omics-based approach. He is also working on emerging protein sources, such as insect protein, to make them safe for food and feed. He is also a research fellow at Edith Cowan University.

Before joining CSIRO, Dr Utpal Bose completed his PhD in Microbial Metabolomics from the School of Pharmacy, The University of Queensland in 2014. Then he joined as a Postdoctoral Fellow in a project “The Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) secretome: towards a control technology”, led by the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) under the supervision of Assoc Prof Scott Cummins (USC) and Dr Mike Hall (AIMS). As a postdoctoral researcher at USC, he has developed and applied skills to integrate multi-omics experiments (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) data to study complex chemical communication systems in the aquatic environment.

Dr Bose is keenly interested in data analysis by using multivariate and chemometrics techniques and integrating ‘multi-omics’ datasets. He has collaborations across academia and industry in Australia and overseas. He has published his research outputs in high-ranked journals, such as Nature, Journal of Proteome Research, Journal of Proteomics, Journal of Chromatography A and Food Chemistry.
