Biography
Cherry Chen is a research scientist in Manufacturing, CSIRO. With more than 10 years of experience in Materials Science and Engineering, Cherry specializes in the development of functional composite materials using additive Manufacturing, microwave technologies, laser cladding and nano-coating. She has research experience in polymers, metals, ceramics, metal-ceramic composites; nanocomposites for space applications (radiation shielding), biomedical (bone regeneration & drug delivery), energy (metal hydride for hydrogen storage), ultra-lightweight structures, sensing and actuating.
As an excellent team player with good communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills, she has built prolific collaborations in different aspects of research resulting in 25 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 7 presentations in international conferences. She is a primary supervisor of a postdoc fellow, working on 3D printing of Mg composite implant for bone regeneration.
Cherry has won and now is leading a kick-start project with Metokosmos to develop a next generation of space suit. She is currently as a technical lead of one of the Trailblazer University Program with University of Southern Queensland, aiming to support industry partners of rocket manufacturing, launching and in-space hardware.
