Biography

As the Leader of the Geospatial & Environmental Modelling Team within CSIRO Data61, I oversee talented staff working in important domains such as bushfire spread modelling, future climate modelling, front-end and back-end software system design, multi-hazard climate risk assessment and flood modelling. The team has a track record of developing platform technologies including Spark, CFAST, INDRA and Geostack.

I have been involved in a number of INDRA related research projects including the Future Climate Vulnerability Assessment for the City of Stonnington; Coastal Inundation Adaptation Assessment for the City of Geelong; and Generalised Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment for council assets. Additionally I have been involved in leading technical development of flood modelling technology (CFAST) and applying it to flood adaptation assessment projects for Bunbury (Western Australia), Riverview Caravan Park (Ocean Grove), Copiapó River Basin (Chile) and Port Phillip Bay Coastal Hazard Assessment (Victoria).

My other research interests are in computational modelling of physical systems including biomechanical modelling applied to elite level of Swimming and Diving for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS); horse racing; workplace health and safety; rehabilitation and elderly care. I am also technical leader for the development of our markerless motion capture system Ergomechanic which uses computer vision machine learning models to track the body non-invasively in real time.
