Biography

George is the Director of SME Connect Programs and is based in Clayton, VIC.

SME Connect forms part of the wider Innovation Services program within Science Connect, and focuses on supporting small-medium sized businesses to engage with the publicly-funded research sector through facilitation, training and dollar-matched funding. SME Connect currently deliver five programs:

1) CSIRO Kick-Start - Facilitation and dollar-matched funding for start-ups and SMEs to engage in business-led R&D projects with CSIRO

2) Innovate to Grow - An online experiential training program for SMEs to refine their research idea, build connections with the research sector and make informed decisions around progressing with projects.

3) Regional University Industry Collaboration (RUIC) program - A $7M QLD Government funded program to help Queensland-based SMEs engage with the four regional universities through facilitation, training and dollar-matched funding.

4) Generation STEM Links - A NSW Government funded program to connect businesses with students to undertake placements through facilitation and dollar-matched funding. This program is run in collaboration with CSIRO Education and Outreach

5) WA Food Industry Education Collaboration (WAFEC) Program - A WA Government funded program to connect food and beverage businesses with students to undertake placements through facilitation and dollar-matched funding.

George's role also involves engaging with Government, university and industry stakeholders to build national-scale leadership and systems to increase SME engagement and drive the Australian economy forward through innovation. The SME Connect team aim to provide better coordination and marketing between existing schemes, pilot and expanding new programs with relevant stakeholders, and train SMEs and researchers in the value of R&D engagement.
