Biography
I am a senior Principal research scientist at CSIRO's Data61, a part of Australia's national Science agency, and I hold an appointment as adjunct full Professor of Statistics at the UNSW, Sydney. I completed my undergraduate degree in mathematics at the University of Melbourne, and a PhD in statistics at the University of Bristol, UK.
Prior to joining Data61, I spent almost 20 years at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, UNSW Sydney. I am an enthusiastic supporter of the data for good initiative, and was a team lead for the Data4Good stream of UDASH. My research is focussed primarily on the development of Bayesian models and computational methodology to solve real world problems.
My current interest include developing Bayesian semiparametric models; approximate Bayesian inference methods including Markov chain Monte Carlo, Approximate Bayesian computation; Bayesian modelling techniques including quantile and ordinal regression using nonparametric approaches; scalable computational methods for data arising from medical images (particularly PET images), cosmology and climate models. I am also interested in the detection of gender bias English language documents.
