Biography
Dr Daniel Grainger is a research scientist and economist for the CSIRO.
He has experience in market valuation, non-market valuation and prioritisation of human and natural assets. His primary research interest has been the development of new quantitative estimation methods for the valuation and prioritisation of complex social goods and their impacts. His work has included externality pricing for optimal and sustainable resource allocation, development and assessment of economic models and frameworks for private and public sector purposes, and market design with a particular focus on information elicitation, aggregation and quality. He also has industry experience in corporate finance and engineering.
Research topics of interest have included
(1) Investigating externality pricing for markets and regulation for optimal extraction to ensure sustainability is achieved
(2) Design and quantitative estimation of non-market valuation of complex social goods in a land management setting for an Indigenous organisation
(3) Creating a new taxonomy/framework for applied economic modelling of natural resources upon conducting a comprehensive review of industry and academic research
