Biography

Dr Nicky Grigg is a sustainability scientist with a focus on resilience, adaptation and transformation. Her early career focused on quantitative and biogeochemical analyses, including modelling and synthesis of biogeochemical responses in systems such as the Coorong during periods of drought, and earlier PhD research modelling sediment biogeochemical dynamics, and postdoctoral work on nonlinear ecological system dynamics. This early foundation in mathematical and biophysical modelling continues to inform her systems‑based approach to sustainability research.

Her work in CSIRO since 2007 has spanned a range of sustainability science projects, with a focus on resilience, adaptation, and transformation in social‑ecological systems. She works in inter- and transdisciplinary teams to undertake vulnerability and resilience assessments, explore alternative futures through scenario and modelling analyses, identify barriers to and enablers of sustainability transitions, and build capacities for adaptation and transformation. Her work emphasises co‑production, systems thinking, and engaging across diverse knowledge systems to help anticipate, navigate, and respond to large‑scale environmental and social change.
