Environmental Research Scientist
As a team we are working to improve the existing understanding of Australian bushfire behavior. This multidisciplinary research project integrates expertise from remote sensing, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, science/engineering to address the practical issues associated with preparing, responding, and recovering from bushfire events (NBIC team). I am a key contributor to the on-going need for science-based, readily accessible data and analysis on bushfire hazard and risk through the development of medium to long-term scenarios of bushfire severity (using dynamic vegetation modelling). This will facilitate emergency managers, land-use and infrastructure planners and land managers to effectively plan for reasonable worst-case bushfire scenarios and scenarios based on current vegetation conditions. This will also facilitate commonwealth government to access nationally consistent products for a coherent view of bushfire severity and spread as valuable inputs to socio-economic and environmental planning and investment decision-making.
