Biography

Alison is an internationally recognised aquatic ecologist, with experience as a research leader in both University and Government research institutions. She has broad research interests in the ecology of floodplain rivers, freshwater fish, environmental flows, fish recruitment, life-history traits, adaptations and flow-ecology relationships. Alison is well respected in her field and has been recognised during her career through a number of Professional Awards and research achievements.

Alison also has a strong background of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including scientists, policy makers, resource managers, industry sectors (fishers, farmers) and indigenous groups. She has sound experience in listening to people’s views, and providing scientific leadership and direction where necessary. She is regularly sought for advice on water and fisheries related issues; has been a member of a number of Government Committees and is a strong advocate for science-based policy and management.

She has led several large research projects, often working closely with research users and stakeholders in conducting the research. Alison has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and regularly presents her research at conferences and workshops. She has supervised a number of PhD and honours research students, and is a mentor to many early career researchers.
