Biography
Ian is part of CSIRO Environment’s Climate Intelligence Program. His role is to enhance the content and delivery of information on climate change to the Australian community, with a particular focus on Australian businesses. In Australia, climate risk disclosure regulations are driving increasing demand from businesses, and there are imperatives for all three levels of government to adapt to climate change. Ian works to enhance CSIRO’s contribution to meeting this demand. In addition to improving the rigour and efficiency of climate change services, he develops and delivers climate intelligence.
Ian possesses knowledge across a range of scientific disciplines at the boundary of climate projections and climate impacts. He provides guidance on climate projections across CSIRO and in partnerships with other agencies, including the National Partnership on Climate Projections and the Australian Climate Service, initiatives that are critical to the delivery of climate intelligence in Australia.
Ian has over 20 years of experience generating information on the climate and disseminating it to research, government and private-sector stakeholders. He previously led the knowledge brokerage team of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes and worked for the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, the UK Met Office and CSIRO in a variety of applied climate science, project management and data provision roles. His PhD from UNSW Sydney focussed on the integration of regional climate projections into investigations of climate change impacts.
Ian has contributed to numerous scientific papers and reports, including major international reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, OECD and European Environment Agency.
