Biography
Louise is a senior scientist in CSIRO focusing on plant pathology issues in the biosecurity domain. Her research is strongly aligned with CSIRO strategic goal to limit the impacts of nationally important invasive alien species.
Louise is leading the way in the science of biological control of invasive plants using plant pathogens by embracing the latest molecular technologies and considering the broader ecological impact of the research.
Louise is also applying her extensive knowledge of rust fungi to contribute to investigations of incursions by undesirable alien plant pathogens into new countries. For example, she was called on to advise and work on the high-profile pathogen, myrtle rust (Puccinia psidii), following its incursion in Australia.
Before joining CSIRO in 1996, Louise worked as a Research Scientist with New Zealand's Landcare Research, 1994-96. Prior to this she was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Saskatchewan, Canada (1993-94).
