Sieh Ng is a Site Leader/Quality Assurance Manager/food safety microbiologist with the Food Microbiology Team within the Microbial Food Systems Group of the CSIRO Agriculture and Food. She has a track record of assessing food safety risks to consumers and improving food product safety. She leads the food safety risk assessment for all the food for human consumption projects for food program and other business units. She chairs a multidiscipline HACCP team of food program, reviewing and approving HACCP plans, liaises with regulatory body, Dairy Food Safety Victoria to obtain approval of the HACCP plans. She also leads commercial projects focusing on the validation of alternative processing technologies using microbiological challenge testing and food safety compliance to FSANZ food standard code. Currently she is working on precision fermentation and novel foods, which are the focus areas of research for Food Program.

She works with national regulators as well as industry to investigate product microbial contamination issues and solve food safety and quality problems.

Sieh has extensive expertise in helping industry adopt innovative processing technologies for the production of fresher, healthier and more nutritious foods.

She also ensures our food processing facilities comply with food safety requirements in accordance with FSANZ, Department of Agriculture and the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods.

Sieh also works with industry clients on project relating to microbiological safety and stability with regards to product reformulation.

Other Interests

Sieh is involved in STEM initiative. She presented talks at high school and university to encourage high school students to be interested in science. She also presented talks at Pint of Science events. Sieh is an active member of the Werribee social club.

Current Roles

  • Site Leader
    Provides a local leadership presence for staff onsite and representing CSIRO locally/regionally. The Site Leader also plays a major role on site having oversight of Health, Safely & Environment, Facilities & Security, Emergency Management and Site Operations.

  • Quality Assurance Manager
    Oversees the quality assurance function of the CSIRO Agriculture and Food Werribee pilot plants. Liaises with regulatory body to obtain approval for the HACCP plan so that the food for human consumption process can proceed at Werribee pilot plants.

  • Food Safety Risk Assessment Leader
    Reviews and approves food safery risk assessment request from Agriculture and Food and also other Business Units, chairs the multidisciplinary HACCP team.

  • Research Microbiologist
    Helps industry to solve food processing problem by designing microbiological experiments to establish solutions to ensure the production of a safe food that is fit for human consumption .

  • Project Leader
    Leads projects that help commercial clients to improve their product safety and conducts validation studies for alternative processing technologies. Conduct microbiological challenge testing and shelf life study.
