Biography
Juan was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He obtained a BSc in Biotechnology from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and a Masters in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2018.
Juan has a broad background in biology, ranging from in vivo analysis of cancer treatments to identifying clinical pathogenic bacteria and their molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis. During his Masters in biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Juan characterised enzymes produced by bacteria that were involved in their pathogenesis mechanism. At his PhD, Juan used Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology tools to add value to livestock waste using enzymatic hydrolysis, and to textile waste using it as a support for biocatalysts.
Juan is currently a CERC Postdoctoral Fellow under the Future Protein Mission, creating new complementary proteins through advanced biomanufacturing processes at the CSIRO Biofoundry.
