Dr Charlotte Williams

Dr Charlotte Williams is a Principal Research Scientist and Group Leader of the Chemical Biology & Botanicals Group within the Biotherapeutics Program at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s National Science Agency.

Dr Williams plays a pivotal role in the Biotherapeutics Program, acting as a link between biology, chemistry, surface and polymer science to delivers complex research programs, with biotech companies, SMEs, academic groups and within CSIRO.

Charlotte has grown a strong portfolio and pipeline of projects for CSIRO. Through delivery to areas such as: theranostic cancer imaging, new cardio-protective agents, therapeutic Antibody-Drug-Conjugates, development of new biocatalysts for the pharmaceutical industry, development of hydrogel materials and drug-delivery polymers for various therapeutic indications, as well as through supervision of postdocs and students, through publication and invited talks and interviews.

Charlotte’s expertise was instrumental in manufacturing a pilot-scale, regulated antibody-conjugate in CSIRO’s National Vaccine and Therapeutic Laboratory, this theranostic conjugate was prepared for use in Phase I clinical trials in Australia.

She completed her Ph.D., with distinction, from the University of Western Australia 2002, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at The University of Oxford, U.K., from there she gained industry experience both in the U.K. (Johnson Matthey Technology Centre) and Australia (Starpharma Pty. Ltd.) before taking up a role at CSIRO in 2009.
