Biography
Dr Jonathan Yu is a technical architect and data scientist with the Environmental Informatics group in CSIRO. He has expertise in technical architectures (information and systems), data integration (particularly Linked Data), data analytics and visualisation. Since 2009, Dr Yu and his team has developed a number of tools and platforms that has streamlined information flows in Australia through initiatives such as WIRADA, eReefs, AURIN and ecocloud. He and his team continue to research innovative approaches to enhance decision making and understanding through improved information flow across the environmental domain and the broader digital economy within Australia and internationally.
Dr Yu has led technical architecture and implementation projects such as:
* Provena (provena.io) which is a Data and Provenance Information System supporting the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP) Modelling and Decision Support subprogram
* National Bushfire Intelligence Capability (NBIC)+
* Location Index - a platform to enable and improve location-based integration of data in Australia (http://loci.cat)
* network.csiro.au - CSIRO internal capability discovery search engine, which integrates HR, research and project data
* CSIRO Knowledge Network - a dataset search engine for to enable discovery and access to government, scientific, academic and spatial data (https://knowledgenet.co)
Research interests include:
- Development of approaches to integrate and streamline information supply chains
- Application of ontologies and controlled vocabularies to enable data exchange and interoperability
- Geospatial Linked Data Systems
- Design and implementation of information and system architectures
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Innovation and lean methods for informatics - e.g. Agile and lean data ecosystems
- User-centered design and implementation for scientific information challenges
